President Biden is taking action to increase the production of SAF to at least 3 billion gallons per year and reduce aviation emission by 20 percent by 2030. As part of that effort, DOE has announced $64.7 million in funding for 22 biofuel projects.

Court denies request to rehear case vacating EPA’s E15 rule


The U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit on Sept. 9 denied a petition for rehearing filed by Growth Energy, RFA, and NCGA challenging a ruling handed down in July that vacated a 2019 rule issued by the EPA allowing year-round sales of E15.

The House Agriculture Committee on Sept. 13 advanced its portion of the Build Back Better Act, which currently includes $1 billion in USDA funding to expand biofuel infrastructure to increase availability of higher blends of ethanol and biodiesel.

USDA awards $25M loan to Red Trail Energy for CCS project


The USDA on Sept. 9 awarded a $25 million loan under the Rural Energy for America Program to Red Trail Energy LLC to support the construction of a carbon capture processing and storage facility at the company’s ethanol plant in North Dakota.

EIA: Ethanol production up 2%, stocks down 3%


U.S. fuel ethanol production expanded by 2 percent the week ending Sept. 3, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration on Sept. 9. Weekly ending stocks of fuel ethanol were down more than 3 percent.

State corn checkoffs commit $1.25 to grow E85 in California


The Nebraska Corn Board, along with the corn checkoff programs from Kansas and Missouri, will provide California fuel retailers $1.25 million over the next year to increase availability of E85. Fuel will be supplied by Pearson Fuels.

Rep. Randy Feenstra, R-Iowa, on Aug. 24 introduced a bill that aims to establish a research, development and demonstration program for a commercially viable fuel cell system that uses biofuels as the main fuel source.

Gevo plans to add alcohol-to-hydrocarbon pilot to Luverne site


Gevo Inc. on Sept. 7 announced plans to install an alcohol-to-hydrocarbon process pilot at its existing biorefinery located in Luverne, Minnesota. The company also recently filed environmental permits for its Net-Zero 1 project in South Dakota.
