EIA: Ethanol production expands 6%, reaches near record high


U.S. ethanol production soared to a near-record high of 1.096 barrels per day the week ending Oct. 15, up more than 6 percent from the previous week and tied for the third highest production level on record, according to data released by the EIA.

NDIC approves Class VI well for Red Trail Energy’s CCS project


The North Dakota Industrial Commission on Oct. 19 approved the state’s first Class VI well for CO2 sequestration. The approval will allow Red Trail Energy LLC to geologically store CO2 produced at its ethanol plant near Richardton, North Dakota.

ADM agrees to sell Peoria dry mill to BioUrja Group


ADM announced on Oct. 21 that it has reached an agreement to sell its 135 MMgy ethanol production complex in Peoria, Illinois, to BioUrja Group. The deal is expected to close in the coming weeks, according to the company.

Feenstra bill aims to compare E85 FFVs, electric vehicles


Rep. Randy Feenstra, R-Iowa, on Oct. 19 introduced the COST Act, a bill that aims to compel the federal government to compare the financial and environmental costs of electric vehicles and E85 capable flex-fuel vehicles (FFVs).

EPA: 3 new SRE petitions filed, 65 SRE petitions now pending


The U.S. EPA on Oct. 21 published updated small refinery exemption (SRE) data, reporting that there are currently 65 SRE petitions pending under the Renewable Fuel Standard, up from 62 that were pending as of mid-September.

NCERC receives $1.9 million to expand research capabilities


The National Corn-to-Ethanol Research Center, located at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, has been awarded $1.9 million though the Rebuild Illinois Wet Lab Capital program by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.

ADM, Gevo sign MOU to produce up to 500M gallons of SAF


ADM and Gevo Inc. have signed a MOU to support the production of SAF and other low carbon-footprint hydrocarbon fuels. The MOU contemplates the production of both ethanol and isobutanol that would then be transformed into renewable hydrocarbons.

FCL exploring carbon capture with Whitecap Resources


Federated Co-operatives Ltd. has signed an MOU with Whitecap Resources. Under the planned agreement, CO2 emissions captured from the Co-op Refinery Complex and Co-op Ethanol Complex will be sequestered as part of Whitecap's Wyburn Unit.
