EPA proposes to further delay RFS compliance deadlines


The U.S. EPA on Nov. 18 issued a proposed rule further delay certain RFS compliance dates, including those for compliance years 2019, 2020 and 2021. The agency is also proposing to change how it establishes RFS compliance deadlines starting in 2022.

House passes Build Back Better Act


The House of Representatives on Nov. 19 voted to approve the Build Back Better Act, a $1.9 trillion legislative package that includes nearly $1 billion for biofuels infrastructure, extends the biodiesel tax credit, and includes incentives for SAF.

EPA: Nearly 1.7 billion RINs generated in October


The U.S. EPA has released updated renewable identification number (RIN) data, reporting that nearly 1.7 billion RINs were generated under the Renewable Fuel Standard in October, up from 1.56 billion generated during the same month of last year.

The House Ag Committee’s Subcommittee on Commodity Exchanges, Energy and Credit on Nov. 16 hosted a hearing on the renewable economy. The event featured testimony on the importance of biofuels, the RFS, year-round E15, and biobased products.

Ohio House approves bill to create tax credit for E15, E85 sales


The Ohio House of Representatives on Nov. 17 voted 89 to zero in favor of a bill that aims to offer qualifying fuel retailers a 5-cent-per-gallon tax credit for sales of fuel containing between 15 and 85 percent ethanol.

FS announces construction of third corn ethanol plant in Brazil


FS has announced its expansion in Mato Grosso and the construction of its third corn ethanol plant, located in Primavera do Leste, Mato Grosso, Brazil. The 150 MMgy facilty is scheduled to begin commissioning in 2023.

EIA: Ethanol production up 2%, stocks down 1%


U.S. fuel ethanol production expanded by 2 percent the week ending Nov. 12, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration on Nov. 17. Stocks of fuel ethanol were down 1 percent.

Feenstra amendment bolsters use of woody biomass for bioenergy


The House Committee on Science, Space and Technology on Nov. 16 approved an amendment to the National Wildlife Fire Risk Reduction Program Act offered by Rep. Randy Feenstra, R-Iowa, that aims to bolster bioenergy and biofuels production.

Gevo, Sweetwater Energy sign feedstock MOU


Gevo Inc. has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Sweetwater Energy Inc. regarding the use of sustainably sourced agricultural residues and woody biomass as a feedstock for producing cellulosic alcohols and liquid hydrocarbons.

Brazil reduces tariff on ethanol imports from 20% to 18%


The USDA FAS on Nov. 12 announced Brazil took action on Nov. 5 to enact a unilateral 10 percent reduction of import tariffs on 87 percent of all goods and services through the end of 2022. Ethanol is among the products impacted.

RFA to Biden: ‘Double down’ on ethanol to cut prices at the pump


As the Biden administration continues to explore options for addressing high gas prices, the RFA sent a letter to the White House on Nov. 15 explaining that strong RFS volumes and expanded ethanol consumption can help keep pump prices in check.

During its Nov. 10 meeting, the American Coalition for Ethanol board of directors voted to support new policies that credit farmers and ethanol producers for activities helping ethanol reach net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by mid-century.
