EPA updates guidance on corn kernel fiber ethanol production The U.S. EPA on Sept. 28 released updated guidance that describes three additional ways ethanol plants that co-process corn kernel fiber and corn starch can demonstrate the resulting volume of cellulosic biofuel produced. READ MORE SHARE
Biofuel groups intervene in legal challenge to RFS rule Growth Energy, the RFA and Clean Fuels Alliance America have filed motions in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Colombia Circuit to intervene in support of the U.S. EPA’s rule to set 2020, 2021 and 2022 RFS RVOs. READ MORE SHARE
	Minnesota awards $6.4 million in biofuel infrastructure grants The Minnesota Department of Agriculture has awarded $6.4 million to 44 projects under its Agricultural Growth, Research, and Innovation Biofuels Infrastructure Grant Program. KAAPA Ethanol, Aurora Cooperative announce joint venture Aurora Cooperative Elevator Co. and KAAPA Ethanol Holdings LLC have announced a joint venture involving Aurora Cooperative’s ethanol and grain facilities located west of Aurora, Nebraska. IRENA: Global biofuel, bioenergy jobs at 12.7 million in 2021 Worldwide renewable energy employment reached 12.7 million last year, according to a report released by the International Renewable Energy Agency. Liquid biofuels, solid biomass and biogas accounted for a combined 3.44 million of those jobs. READ MORE SHARE
	EIA: US biofuel capacity reaches 21.469 billion gallons in July U.S. ethanol and biodiesel capacity were down slightly in July. Renewable diesel capacity, however, continued to expand and is poised to surpass operatable biodiesel capacity, according to data released by the U.S. EIA. READ MORE SHARE
DOE releases draft clean hydrogen production standard The U.S. Department of Energy is opening a public comment period on its Clean Hydrogen Production Standard draft guidance. Ethanol and biomass are among the sources of hydrogen production addressed in the draft guidance document. READ MORE SHARE
LanzaTech announces financing deal with Brookfield LanzaTech NZ Inc. on Oct. 3 announced a funding partnership with Brookfield Renewable, and its institutional partners, to co-develop and build new commercial-scale production plants that will employ LanzaTech’s CCT technology. READ MORE SHARE
Valerian Materials, NCERC and SBI partner on biobased products Through funding provided by BioMADE, the NCERC at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Valerian Materials, the University of Minnesota, and SBI have partnered to perform research and development on novel sustainable materials solutions. EIA: Ethanol production down 5%, stocks up 1% U.S. fuel ethanol production was down more than 5 percent the week ending Sept. 23, falling to the lowest level since February 2021, according to data released by the U.S. EIA on Sept. 28. Stocks of fuel ethanol expanded by nearly 1 percent. READ MORE SHARE

USDA: Corn use for fuel ethanol at 446 million bushels in July The USDA recently released its Grain Crushings and Co-Products Production report for September, reporting that corn use for fuel ethanol production in July was down 1 percent when compared to July 2021, but up slightly when compared to June.
