DuPont, Danisco to develop cellulosic ethanol technology

Delaware-based DuPont and Denmark-based Danisco have formed a joint venture between Danisco's biotechnology division Genencor and DuPont to develop and commercialize cellulosic ethanol production technology. Senate passes farm bill; legislation moves to president's desk

Following the lead set by the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate passed the 2008 farm bill May 15 by a vote of 81-15. The House passed the bill May 14 by an overwhelming vote of 318-106. President George W. Bush has said he will veto the bill if it reaches his desk. However, considering the majority of support the bill has received in both houses of Congress, there will clearly be enough votes for a two-thirds majority needed to override his veto.READ MORE

The "food-versus-fuel" debate being waged in the United States has been nothing more than a cleverly planned public relations campaign. EPA seeks RFS waiver comments

The U.S. EPA is seeking comments on the Texas petition to reduce the renewable fuels standard (RFS) in the state of Texas by 50 percent. Gov. Rick Perry made a request in an April 25 letter to the EPA to halve the amount of ethanol requirements for fuel due to higher corn prices.READ MORE
