Researchers at the U.S. Department of Energy's BioEnergy Science Center have engineered of a microbe that improves cellulosic isobutanol yields by a factor of 10. The finding builds on results from 2011.

Murphy USDA Inc. has released second quarter financial results, reporting that its ethanol plant in Hereford, Texas, achieved record yields during the quarter and first six months of the year. The improved yields partially offset crush spreads.
