The USDA Foreign Agricultural Trade Service hosted a trade mission to Lima, Peru, from June 9-12 aimed at expanding market access and boosting U.S. agricultural exports. The agency identified ethanol as one of the products for which there is strong export opportunity.&nbsp;According to USDA, Peru is the fourth-largest market for U.S. agricultural exports in South America and the U.S. is Peru’s second-largest agricultural supplier. Despite bilateral agricultural trade growing by 263% since 2009 to $5.3 billion, the $3.66 billion agricultural trade deficit persists. The recent trade mission aimed to build on that growth, bridge the gap, and increase U.S. exports.&nbsp;The U.S. Grains Council was among the more than 50 organizations that participated in the trade mission.&nbsp;Peru consumed an estimated 76.61 million gallons of ethanol in 2024, according to an annual biofuels report filed with the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service’s Global Agricultural Information Network in late 2024. Domestic ethanol production was at approximately 55.48 million gallons, with total fuel ethanol exports estimated at 50.19 million gallons.&nbsp;The GAIN report estimates that Peru’s total fuel ethanol imports reached 48.08 million liters in 2021, 44.65 million liters in 2022 and 56.53 million liters in 2023. The vast majority of those imports were from the U.S.&nbsp;Export data published by the USDA FAS indicates the U.S. exported 50.28 million gallons of ethanol to Peru last year, up approximately 6% when compared to 2023 and accounting for nearly 3% of total U.S. ethanol exports for the full year. During the first five months of 2025, the U.S. exported 22.63 million gallons of ethanol to Peru, up 34% when compared to the same period of 2024 and accounting for 3% of all U.S. fuel ethanol exports during the five-month period.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
